The question underneath the question

Most people come to me with a career question and leave having worked on something closer to identity. The presenting problem is rarely the real one. When you say "I don't know what to do next," what you often mean is "I don't know who I am outside of what I produce." That's a harder question — but it's the one worth sitting with.
